06/12/25 2:40 Aintree - Becher Chase System
1st Gaboriot 11/2 - 55
2nd Mr Vango 4/1 - 40
3rd Monbeg Genius 12/1 - 35
3rd Roi Mage 28/1 - 35
As you can see, Gaboriot comes top by a little bit here. I have based this on soft ground because the rain is due and it's already g-s now. Gaboriot gets in at the bottom of the weights. He has been over this course 3 times now with a UR, 3, 2. That was the Foxhunters and the last 2 were the Grand Sefton, and that includes his last run. So he shows a liking for this course. All those were over 2m 5f though, i have been in this position before with a Colin Tizzard horse Ultragold, who won twice here over 2m 5f but they stepped him up to this race and he didn't stay, whereas this horse has been proven to stay further. So the fact he has won here over 2m 5f and is a winner over 4m, this 3m 2f should suit a lot better. Especially with the rain coming. His highest rating is 128 and runs off 124. He does have a bit to find with some of these, but this distance with such a low weight does hold appeal.
Mr Vango is a horse I love, he is a typical Bradstock runner, the way he jumps and leads the way, i just love the guts of this horse and previous horses they have had, who have had class. Mr Vango stays, he jumps beautifully, and he will go really well. He does carry top weight, that is because he is the best horse in the race. It's just how testing it gets would be a worry with that weight, although he won the Midlands National off 12st. And I'd be interested in his at 66/1 in the National if he were to win this.
Monbeg Genius did jump left during the National this year, which is a concern, although his best form has come left-handed. He pulled up there, it will be interesting to see him drop down in distance to try these fences again. He definitely stays and they see him as a National Horse, he will appreciate the rain as well. He could go well at a nice price.
Roi Mage is long odds and is also 13 now, for a 13 year old he is lightly raced though, he has however come 7th and 9th in the Grand National so we know he likes the fences, his best career runs have come at this distance, with a 1, 2, 2. His only career win. So although the above, the positives are he likes the course and this distance is perfect. He could easily make the places here, and at his odds i wouldnt put you off.
I will stick with my system, but i like all of these here, i wouldn't put you off any of them. Whichever horses do well here, their price for the National will shorten
My Selection: Gaboriot 11/2
