07/06/25 3:30 Epsom - The Derby
1st Midak 14/1 - 50
1st Sea Scout 100/1 - 50
2nd Delacroix 3/1 - 45
3rd Pride Of Arras 5/1 - 35
Would just like to explain why Sea Scout is up there. This system looks up a variety of things from runs on going, distance, track, class, speed. And Sea Scout has won at Epsom in a Listed race which is great and has won on good, the worry is his last run when well beaten in the Dante. The question mark is not if he can stay, but if he is worthy of this class. I fear, and this is a personal view of reviewing the race, and that is that he will be out of his depth here. He was race fit then and even The Lion In Winter who was looking a little 'tubby' came home in front of him.
Midak is a Group 3 winner over 10f on good ground. He won't mind if any rain comes. The Race is named after the Aga Khan whose family own him. Jockey and Trainer only come over for him. I don't know really too much about him, but he scored great, and he is very interesting.
Delacroix is the choice of Ryan Moore. He won the Derby Trial at Leopardstown. Aidan has only had 2 winners of the Derby come this route, but they were Galileo and High Chaparral. 22 years later, they haven't managed it since, although Los Angeles was 3rd last year. Breeding suggest this and the St Leger will firmly be in his sights, his half sister won at 1m 4f and 1m6f. His breeding is impeccable, and he won't mind soft ground.
Pride Of Arras is bred to be more of a stayer, and his siblings are winners at 2m. He won the Dante very well, and although i suspect The Lion Of Winter desperately needed the run and under performed that day, you cannot take anything away from Pride Of Arras who won really well. Any rain shouldn't be an issue either, despite winning on Good-Firm last time. I'd be interested in him for the Leger.
Horses not named, The Lion In Winter was well beaten in the Dante, but he was my ante post bet for The Derby, 1m 4f I think is his optimum, and i would ignore his run in the Dante as he definitely looked to need the run, you will certainly see a different horse here. The fact the Ryan Moore went with Delacroix is telling, however don't rule this fella out.
Stanhope Gardens and Rogue Impact have the worst stalls. Damysus came 2nd in the Dante and i thought he was a bit green, he seems to be quite good and the extra distance should help, i think he probably got going a bit late and the winner got first run, he possibly could have caught Pride Of Arras,
I am sticking with my system and going with Midak, however Delacroix, The Lion In Winter and Damysus are all horses i like and wouldnt put anyone off them.
My Selection: Midak 14/1
