22/04/22 2:40 Perth - Highland National System
1st Dubai Devils 8/1 - 60
2nd Poppa Poutine 6/1 - 45
3rd Ladronne 10/1 - 35
Dubai Devils scored really well in this and the only negative i can find is that he is 11st 9lb, and only 1 horse has won carrying over 11st 6lb, but luckily we have Peter Kavanagh on board who claims a lovely 5lb. His last race he won at 4m at Hexham on good-soft. He won nicely by 5L and the 2nd placed horse has won again. The average rating of that race was 107 and today its 119, so he needs to improve again for this. He was put up 8lb for that win so it will not be an easy task. He is off a career high. But we know the distance is fine, the going is fine and although both over hurdles, his form at Perth is 2, 3. so the track should be fine as well. He should go well.
Poppa Poutine is the horse i actually liked before doing this, but his top weight is a big worry. And the fact he has tried once at this kind of distance before and came 8th in the same class, the track was very different though, plus he carried 1lb less than he is due to carry here. His last run at Fontwell was encouraging when he was a close 2nd to fellow rival I See You Well. There was a 1lb between the 2 that day with I See You Well carrying the lesser weight, and today he carries 3lb less than Poppa Poutine. So you would think I See You Well could hold the form but he only scored 15 in this system. Poppa Poutine if running to his last race could go well but the extra distance and the weight is a worry.
Ladronne is untested over this distance but he will love this ground. He does need to step up though. He won a similar grade race to Dubai Devils and he is up 7lb for that win, unlike Dubai Devils though he needs to prove he can stay this far, if he can he could go well.
My Selection: Dubai Devils 8/1
