24/04/21 3:40 Sandown - Gold Cup System

1st Enrilo 11/2 - 60

2nd Supreme Escape 8/1 - 50

2nd The Young Master 25/1 - 50

2nd Doing Fine 33/1 - 50

3rd Cap Du Nord 25/1 - 45

This race is so very close. Enrilo just tops it here, and the only question mark is the trip, but he has only run 4 times over fences but at 3 miles so there is nothing to suggest he wont stay. He will love the ground with stats of 1, 1, 1, 2, 1. He won a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Sandown, althought over fences here it takes some jumping, but he seems to be a good jumper. He won a race last time where the average rating was 135, today its 140, and he is up 5lb for that win but he could still be improving over fences and could certainly have a big say. The horse in 3rd that day Ballymoy has since won 2 in a row, so thats good solid form.

Supreme Escape gets in at the bottom of the weights. Now he is a horse who is a proven stayer, when winning last time out over 3m 7f on good ground. The average rating in the race was 108 so as you can see that this is a step up for him. He is up 8lb for that win but as with Enrilo he has run only 5 times over fences and could still be improving, although he has won on heavy, im not sure its his ground and this spring ground could possibly be more to his liking. He won carrying 11st 11lb that day and has to carry just 10st around in this. He could certainly have a say if he does improve for this better ground.

The Young Master has age against him and a long absence. He is essnetially 2lb better off than when coming 2nd in this in 2019, although on the same mark, that year his jockey claimed 3lb and this time the jockey claims 5lb. He can run well after a break and has won a few over fences on good ground after a break. He has the ability but he needs to be fit for this.

If you think The Young Master is getting on well Doing Fine is 13 now, and is 5lb highr than when winning over C&D in December, but doesnt have a jockey claiming 7lb this time, so going and track are fine plus distance too but he is an old boy now so might find this race a little too hard, however he is such a plucky horse and he will give his all.

Cap Du Nord needs to prove something over this trip as he pulled up over 3m 2f last time out, thats a worry but the slightly better ground may help. He has jumped well around here before.

My Selection: Enrilo 11/2
