1st Captain Drake 11/1 - 45
2nd De Rasher Counter 7/1 - 40
2nd Prime Venture 10/1 - 40
3rd Joe Farrell 16/1 - 35

Very tight race here. And the going will be heavy, so the winner will need to have stamina in bundles to win this.

Captain Drake is a worry if he stays up he has a chance. But in 4 races over fences, he has only completed twice. On the plus side, 2 of his 4 wins have come on heavy, and he is 2/2 on heavy. He has won over hurdles here, so the track should suit. He came 7th on his chase debut here too,, but i think he probably needed the run on that occasion. its a tough one because if he stays up he has a great ew chance. Lets hope he does.

De Rasher Counter has to contend with top weight here which is a big worry in these conditions. No hore carrying more than 11st 5lb in this race has won on heavy. The jockey claims lb but i still fear thats not big enough as giving a lot of weight to the others. It would take some performance for him to win.

Prime Venture was 4th in this last year and is now 4lb lower than that run, he also has blinkers on for the first time which could get some more improvement out. Ground is fine and he is a proven stayer. He has sound ew claims

Joe Farrell won the Ayr Gold Cup 2 years ago, it was on good ground that day which is a worry, because although he has won on soft, this will be the heaviest he has encountered plus, he hasnt run this far in such conditions. He is 7lb higher than that win, i think he may find it hard work.

My Selection: Captain Drake 11/1
