23/02/19 2:40 Newcastle - The Eider Chase System
1st Harry The Viking 25/1 - 65
2nd Mysteree 20/1 - 55
3rd Vincente 11/2 - 50
Harry The Viking is with Raz De Maree the oldest runner in the race . He is a true out and out stayer, and he will love every minute on this ground, with stats of 1, 1, 9, 10, PU, 3, 3, 2, PU, 3, 1, 1, 1. In fact 5 of his 7 wins have come on this ground, and if it dries out, his other wins came on good. He beat Callett Mad last time out who went on to be 2nd in a Grade 3 over 3m 5f. He get on with his jockey, and has onyl ever been out the places 4 times in 10 runs. Winning 3. He has come 4th in this 2 years ago, and is 1lb lower, but it was soft that day. He seems in good form, if his form continues, he will have claims, his age is against him.
Mysteree is 11 now , and has been badly out of form, however blinkers are applied today and maybe that will bring out some extra in him. I think he would want to rain to come though. He jumps well and he stays. He won this 2 years ago (on soft) and runs off the same mark again today. If he can recapture his old form then he has claims, my only worry is that it will not be soft enough.
Vincente will not want any rain, this is probbaly as soft as he wants it. He is a dual Scottish National winner and that is his aim again this year, he comes alive in March and April. Normally doesnt come here as its always stamina sapping wet ground, and he doesn't want that, he loves perfect spring ground. The one thing that catches my eye is that he is on exaclty the same mark as he was when he won both Scottish Nationals. The Scottish National is his target and i suspect Nicholls will not want him higher than that mark, if he wins he will go up! you decide.
Of the others I do like Daklondike, but he scored poorly. Kilkishen also scored poorly, but he ran well in the Grand National Trial and he may appreciate the step up in distance. Just Your Type, I have seen its being backed, but a horse who fell last time out in a Novice chase, has only run 3 times over fences under rules, although has won a P2P. Looks to want the heavens to open, which looking at it, it looks like it is drying out. Its up against good solid jumpers. The only positive is that he looks like a horse who wants these marathon trips and this distance may well bring out the best in him. Intrigued by the market move though.
