02/12/17 3:00 Newbury - System
1st Coneygree 18/1 - 95
2nd American 13/2 - 60
3rd Whisper 8/1 - 55
4th Missed Approach 25/1 - 45
Not really a surprise that Coneygree topped this, i don't really need to say to much, if back to his best he would be able to defy top weight and romp home. He won the Grade 2 Denman Chase here back in 2015, this race is 'easier' than that was, but he was at his peak then after that race he went on to win the Gold Cup. If he can recapture the form of the Punchestown Gold Cup form earlier this year then, this horse will win, but there are a lot of If's. I love this boy and i hope to see him win, he has never raced in a Grade 3 before. And 18/1 is actually an insulting price. Luckily it's not sunny today.
American is my ante post bet here, so i am glad to see him heading the rest of the best stats. Probably would have preferred to see a prep race, but he won a Novice Chase at Exeter last year on his seasonal debut after 238 days off. His last race in March is actually working out very well with Rock The Kasbah and Hainan who come in behind him. I am not going to lie, its not the most confident ante post bet i have made this year.
Whisper has some brilliant form most notably just being beat by Might Bite. He won his seasonla debut in a 2 horse race, but the horse he beat has since gone on to win, however he should have probably beat him much further than he did based on official ratings.
Missed Appraoch's connections are flying at the moment, but this is a big task. He has the ability to go well, but he has to want to go well, he won the Pertemps Qualifier here a couple of years ago over hurdles.
My Selection: Coneygree 18/1
