25/11/17 2:25 Haydock - System
1st Zarkander 20/1 - 70
2nd The World's End 9/2 - 65
3rd Le Rocher 9/1 - 50
This as expected is very competitive, what is not so expected is that Zarkander has come top, on old form then he would have every chance, but is he the same horse?
Zarkanders stats on Heavy are 1, 1, 2. all 3 were Grade 2 races. He won the Rendlesham (G2) in Febuary, although the ground was completely different to today. That form alone would put him in with a chance. Stats suggest this type of track suits him better. And Zarkander is a horse who goes very well fresh, with stats of 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, UR, 1. he comes here after a nice break, and 20/1 could be a cracking ew price.
The World's End is favourite, because of his win in the Novice Hurdle (G1) at Aintree, but to be honest, i am not sure what he beat. The 2 main horses in that race haven't raced since. He has however asked everything which has been asked for him. The going though is an unknown and he also comes back from a break, and we don't know if he will need the run or not. There are a few questions marks for me. If he wins this then, i would certainly be looking at him as a prime contender for Cheltenham. He is mixing it with much more experienced horses today.
Le Rocher will relish the mud here 1, 1 on heavy. He won the Future Champions (G1) Novice Hurdle and the Triumph Hurdle Trial (G2) both on heavy ground in 2013, then was off the track a very long time he hasn't come back in the kind of form since his return. If he can find that form then he has chances, maybe the ground will help.
Minella Awards and Sam Spinner were just outside on this, both horses interest me and could have claims
My Selection: Zarkander 20/1
