1st Big Orange 10/11 - 105
2nd Wicklow Brave 18/1 - 55
3rd Qewy 10/1 - 45
4th Oriental Fox 33/1 - 40

No suprise that Big Orange comes top here, he is by far the stand out of these, and is certainly the one to beat. Twice a winner of this, the only concern is that the gorund might be softer than ideal, however no rain forecast, so i am hoping it dries out a bit.

So if Big Orange doesn't run to his best then what will take his place?

Wicklow Brave from the mighty Mullins stable. He loves this distance, and recently won the Punchestown Champion Hurdle at 2m, he is also the Irish St Leger winner over 1m 6f. My only concern with him is he needs the rain. he is a winner of good but on good-soft he has only managed 1 placed in 5 attempts.

Qewy run a cracker of a race at Royal Ascot and that could give him claims here if he runs to that form. He tends to go well fresh though and 2 of his 3 wins have come on the back of a break. He certainly could have place claims.

Oriental Fox is a horse not to dismiss he is a winner of the Queen Alexandra twice at Royal Ascot, but i worry he is not so much a fan of Goodwood, only placing twice in 6 attempts.

A horse under the radar a bit i think is Sweet Selection, who won a credible 7th in the Ascot Gold Cup, but is 4/4 over 2 miles and that includes the G3 Sagaro Stakes, she also won the Cesarewitch over 2m 2f in October. I think 40/1 is an insane price for a 5yo mare who has shown a talent over 2m. Obviously she will need to find some more, but you never know, and if my calculations are correct then she has at least a top 6 spot calling.

My Selection: Big Orange 10/11 (i am having a avery small bet on Sweet Selection 40/1 as well)

  1st Mr Vango 7/1 - 55 2nd O'Connell 7/1 - 45 2nd Nassalam 22/1 - 45   3 horses on 40 - Haiti Couleurs, Monbeg Genius and Collectors Item. Mr Vango came clear here the rest were all very close indeed.  Mr Vango is so consistent he will stay all day, he jumps well, the ground will be fine, although he would probably prefer some rain. He has never been to Chepstow, but his stats suggest the track will not be an issue. The only slight negative would be the quick turn around from his last race.  O'Connell  is very similar to Mr Vango in that he stays, the ground in his case is perfect, my only negative is in 7 attempts he has not won going left-handed and only placed once. He definitely prefers right-handed tracks. If that doesn't inconvenience him, he will have a chance. Nassalam has not been the same horse of late. Since winning this race in 2023 he has only completed a race once in 6 tries, with 5 P's next to his name. It does mean because of that he has slipped...
