06/05/17 2000 Gunieas 3:35 Newmarket - System

1st Eminent 13/2 - 120
2nd Barney Roy 7/2 - 95
2nd Churchill 11/8 - 95
3rd Dream Castle 16/1 - 60

What a race this is going to be. 3 horses with brilliant chances. A Frankel Colt, versus an Excelebration colt as well, will the Frankel beat the Excelebration colt, or can Barney Roy take revenge for his sire? Or will Churchill the Galileo colt, who's sire is also grandsire to Eminent and Barney Roy. The 2nd Frankel colt Dream Castle gets in, in 4th place here.

So what do they have going for them? There are 4 unbeaten colts in the race, and all 4 could be anything. The french raider unfortunately is at a disadvantage, 3 unbeaten winners at 1 mile, only 2 horses have ever run on todays going over the distance, and that is Larchmont Lad who was unplaced and Eminent who is 2/2.

There are a couple of things about Churchill which concern me, not overly much but the doubt is there. First of all 6 of his last 7 1000/2000 guineas winners have come when he has been in form. Minding, Gleneagles, Camelot, Henrythenavigator, Virginia Waters and Footstepsinthesand, all had an in form trainer. George Washington was the only horse who won when he was out of form. One good thing is 6 of his 7 winners all didn't have a run that season before winning, except Virginia Waters, who had a run previously. The other thing is his time at Newmarket when he won the Dewhurst, is slower than Barney Roy's on his debut in the Greenham. Now Churchill will have strengthened during the winter and Barney Roy will have come on from the Greenham. So this is tighter than we think. Barney Roy also won quite nicely, so probably had more in the locker.

On the other hand, Churchill's time over 7f at The Curragh on Yielding was quicker than Minding, when they were both 2yo's!!, so we are looking at a very good horse whatever way you look at it.
He is the class horse of the race and the one they all have to beat.

Eminent scored best here, and i think he is class, similar to his dad, and although he has a lot to live up to, i wonder if he will. He beat a horse i rate very highly in Rivet, in fact watching the race, Eminent was still slightly green, but when hitting the rising ground, he found a new gear and it was hand and heels from then on, where as Rivet met Churchill in the Dewhurst and  although beaten by further, Rivet was stuck behind some and Churchill got first run, but then it was all over for Rivet, and Churchill was all out. I think Eminent has a great chance and is drifitng in the betting. So a good ew for him

Whatever the conclusion, i think it is between these 3, with possibly the french horse and Lancaster Bomber as threats.

My Selection: Eminent 13/2
