03/12/16 1:35 Aintree - System
1st The Last Samurai 14/1 - 75
2nd Beeves 33/1 - 60
2nd Highland Lodge 16/1 - 60
3rd Viconte Du Noyer 11/1 - 55
4th Vieux Lion Rogue 9/1 -45
4th Dare To Endeavour 16/1 - 45
What a tough race this is, i am in a big dilemma. Firstly i have an ante post bet on Highland Lodge at 66/1 for the National. He won this race last year but missed the National and PU in the Ayr National, i think he picked up a knock if i recall correctly, and i was on him for the National last year. So this year i hope he make amends. However he is back from a break and although he has gone ok fresh before, i would have preferred a run before this. I hope he runs well, and a good run will put him good for April. I have not backed him though.
I have actually backed One For Arthur as the trainer thinks he will go well here, but also Ucello Conti, whose trainer and jockey think they have a big chance.
The Last Samurai put in an impressive display at Aintree in April when 2nd in the National to Rule The World. He carried 10st 8lb that day and today shoulders top weight today, so he does have a lot to do, but we know he goes well over the fences which is always a bonus here. He is 2/2 at this distance, and has a lot in his favour today. Only negative is the weight, but at 14/1 its not a bad price.
Beeves is owned by the same person, and he looks interesting with only 10st 4lb on his back. Been placed 3 times out of 4 over this trip, and is a good jumper.
Viconte Du Noyer goes for the inform Tizzard camp, they are picking up some very big races lately, and has won over 2f further, so could go well, has a bit of weight to carry though.
Vieux Lion Rogue goes very well fresh, and hasn't run since coming 7th in the National. I can see why he is fancied here.
This race is a good guideline for the National. It has produced several National winners Silver Birch, Amberleigh House and Earth Summit and many who have won this, have gone well in the National the same year, ie Clan Royal. So whoever wins this, will probably be favourite for next years National.
I however will always agree with my system. You could argue a point with many of todays runners though
