Poule d´Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) Preview

Olympic Glory (red) on his way to victory at Goodwood

  • 3/1 Needs to defy stall 12, but this has been his plan since the Greenham and has been sharper for the run. He has been crying out for the extra furlong. The Only horse to ever beat him was Dawn Approach, so for me that is rock solid form. My only worry would be his stall draw, he is very wide and it puts him at a disadvantage. Still probably our main hope

  • 33/1 and there is a reason. Drawn stall 16, which is not good at all, beaten over 2L by Style Vendome, last time out and i cannot see that being reversed not with this stall draw anyway

  • 50/1 and could be worth a cheeky e/w, just because he has a plum stall draw, but probably just a waste as i think he might find conditions a bit too quick

  • 20/1 Drawn in a good stall, but i really think the heavens need to open up before he can be considered for me. Although only beaten 1/2L by Gengis in a G3 last time out, which gives him a chance still

  • 9/2 Has beaten a few of these runners already and is an obvious horse to beat. Drawn very well too and is probably worthy 2nd favourite. He broke a track record at Chantilly on his 3 year old debut, but that was a new fibresand surface, so not sure how honest that time was. Still one to beat here though

  • 50/1 only beaten just over 1L by Anodin last time out, but still needs to step up here and overcome stall 13, i think it might be a tall ask to reverse form with Anodin

  • 10/1 Ignore Aiden O’Brien horses in this race at your peril. This is his first string and his Group 2 2nd to Reckless Abandon is very good. 10/1 and stall 5, is a worthy e/w punt

  • 33/1 as usual Aiden O’Brien has to have a pacemaker in his race. That annoys me, but that’s for another day. Drawn stall 10 and will go off at a blistering pace, hoping that they can burn out half the field. Just his presence in the field boosts Gale Force Tens chance

  • 66/1 for a reason. Needs a lot of rain to be useful, and needs a lot more than he has shown

  • 50/1 If he wasn’t drawn out in the car park then 50/1 would look good for a small e/w. Needs good ground and has gone well in a G1 back in October, was only beaten into 3rd by 1/2L. And would of liked a prep run beforehand

  • 20/1 this is a horse i liked last year, but not sure he is as good as Olympic Glory, and rating say he is 7lb behind him. He is in the stall next door to OG but i would be surprised if he comes home in front of him. He was beaten by Toronado last time out, and Toronado failed to fire in the Guineas. So doesn’t look great

  • 50/1 This horse is interesting, still a maiden, but connections must think a lot of him to dump him in at this class before he has even won a race. He has an ok stall draw too. And was only beaten 3 1/2 L by Style Vendome last time out, after being keen and he did run on, and looked like 1m will suit well. Also by New Approach. I wouldn’t put a line through him

  • 16/1 i think 6f looks to be his ideal trip but certainly has a chance if he does get the extra distance. I find him hard to fancy but there is no doubt he has a chance

  • 12/1 this poor horse has drawn the car park. I think he would find it extremely difficult to overcome the furthest draw. If he was drawn lower, then he would enter the equation, but based on such a awful draw i will not be backing him

  • 9/1 Might find 1m too sharp, and Willie The Whipper done him no favours during the week at Chester. He is quite quick though and he cannot be ruled out entirely

  • 9/1 full brother to Goldikova, and Oliver Peslier chose to ride him instead of Intello, before Intello was given the stall in the car park with Gengis. Freddy Head has described him as the best horse in his yard by some way. I think he will improve with the better ground, as didn’t seem to go on very soft, even though a creditable 2nd. I quite fancy this one

  • 13/2 When asked what i fancied i glanced through and picked Intello, because i thought he ran very well at Newmarket last time out, and had 2000 Guineas 2nd Glory Awaits back in a distant 3rd that day. Intello looks to want further than 1m and although i would like to think he has a chance. Stall 17 is just awful, and i think that would put an end to any chance he could of had. He will be much better over further eventually

I find it hard to split Style Vendome and Olympic Glory. I rate OG very highly but i worry about his stall draw, and stall draw here is everything.  However i do fancy Anodin at a nice price to suprise. I went for Gale Force Ten, but it could easily be Bright Strike too.

My Picks
1st Anodin 9/1
2nd Style Vendome 9/2
3rd Olympic Glory 3/1
4th Gale Force Ten 10/1
5th Bright Strike 28/1
