Straight from The Horses Mouth - Oaks Day

Straight From The Horses’ Mouth 1/6/12

Godolphin
Mahmood Al Zarooni
16:05 Epson  - Kailani 9/1
Kailani has done nothing wrong in both her starts to date and we decided to take a chance by running her in the Investec Oaks. She worked really well on Friday and I think that she has improved since her run at Newmarket. We were quite easy on our horses at the beginning of the season and a lot of them have come on for their first start. She won her maiden on good ground but we cannot say 100 per cent whether she will handle good to firm until we run her on it. It’s the same with her handling the course, although I expect that the step up to a mile and a half will suit her. We don’t know how good she is and we are waiting for her to surprise us

Micheal Bell

14:15 Epsom - Creme Anglaise

CRÈME ANGLAISE taking her chance at Epsom. Dropped back into handicap class after two thirds in listed contests she should hopefully be on her game and go close
15:45 Newcastle – Bitter Harvest SP
BITTER HARVEST is hoping to get his career wins started in a six runner contest. He has slowly been improving and should we feel, be competitive.

Roger Varian
15:25 Epsom - Boogie Shoes SP
Boogie Shoes lines up in the mile handicap. We were happy with his run at Newmarket and he seems to have come out of the race in good order. He ran well at the track last year so hopefully that won't be an issue.
14:15 Epsom - Pekan Star SP
Pekan Star will have his first run on the year in the 1m2f handicap.
Roger added: "Having won well on his first start of last season he proved to be not very straightforward in his subsequent starts.
"He has had a good winter holiday and is fresh and well. Hopefully he can run a good race first time out this year, as he did last season."

16:05 Epsom – Toptempo 200/1
We are going to let Toptempo take her chance in The Oaks on Friday, my reasoning being that her form is pretty good. She had two runs last year. In the first she finished with a flourish behind Lyric Of Light and then got no sort of a run second time on pretty holding ground. Her only run this season saw her get in more trouble than Bill Sykes, and rather than run for under £2,000 in a maiden we thought we would take our chance. I am not saying she is going to win, but she will stay the trip well. Being on the smallish side and a very good mover, she should handle the track well. Ted Durcan takes the ride and I am sure she and him will not let us down for effort and in racing you never know. If you are not in you can’t win.

Highclere (owners)
16:05 Epsom – Vow 5/1
She is looking very good and has come on a lot from Lingfield.

Brian Meehan
18:50 Haydock – Frantacise SP
Pivotal filly is regally-bred, being half-sister to ten winners, two successful in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Took a while to get the hang of racing on Windsor debut, but it all clicked into place a furlong out and she flew home for third. Sure to be a major player with the experience behind her.
20:30 Haydock – Crimson Cheer SP
Filly was unable to cope with her debut on Kempton’s all-weather track. From the outside draw, she missed the break badly and then compounded that by hanging away from the rest, from which point she was wide all the way. She will know more about it on what is effectiveluy her debut run.

David Nicholls
14:50 Epsom – St Moritz SP
Really looking forward to the Epsom on Friday where ST.MORITZ(A.Nicholls)is going back to try go one better than last year in the Investec Diomed Stakes (group 3)

Richard Fahey
13:40 Epsom – Barefoot Lady 4/1
She ran a better race at York after she bombed out at Goodwood. To be fair to Tony he said he had to get her racing a bit sooner than he wanted to down there and she wobbled home.
This trip will suit her and I imagine the track will be fine too. If she got placed it would be fantastic and if she could win it would be a huge bonus.
15:25 Epsom - Kay Gee Be 20/1
he's a wonderful little horse but he hasn't fared well with the draw in 16 here. It's not where you want to be on the outside at Epsom.
From there he's going to have to step up on what he's shown this year. He's still capable, he's not a back number, but from that box it will be tricky.
It depends what the opposition do. If they go flat out it will give him a chance to get them coming home but it will be what they do, not what he does, that will determine where he finishes so we will have to see.
17:25 Epsom – Alejandro 25/1
Alejandro has a better slot in stall two in the Investec Management Asset Handicap and he's come down 7lbs since the start of the season. We're hoping the trip will suit him a little bit better but he's got to step up on what he's shown so far.
He ran okay first time out and I'd be expecting his best run of the year in this. Whether that's good enough we'll see but he's fit and well.

Eve Johnson Houghton
16:50 Epsom - Lunar Deity 40/1
Lunar Deity runs in a listed race at Epsom on Friday over 7f.  Even though he is only rated 80 I think he has great potential and this should see where he stands
