25/11/17 12:40 Haydock - System
1st Emperor's Choice 9/2 - 100
2nd Courtown Oscar 2/1 - 55
3rd Belmount 7/1 - 45
What a race this will be, not only is it full of some old favourites, its also going to be a slog in the mud. The horse with the biggest heart will win this, and we know there are several in here who run their heart's out each and everytime. I am excited to watch this one.
Emperor's Choice came top here by quite a bit. There is no surprise as his stats on heavy are 3, 2, 1, 1, 1, 6, 1, 2, 1, PU. He is 8lb lower than his last win, which happened to be over C&D 2 years ago, so he is certianly handicapped to win this. It was also after 11 months off the track, so his recent break would not be much of a worry, however he is 10 now (nearly 11) and 2 years is a long time.
He does ok at Haydock with stats of PU, 2, 2, 1. So we know the going and track with not be an issue. However and its a big however, since his last win in 2015, his form has been very poor, and it's never been this poor before. In 7 races he has pulled up 5 times and he has managed 5th and 8th both times well beaten. They were all much better quality races than this, so this is the easiest race since his win last time. If he comes back to his best, he is the one to beat.
I have written donw my thoughts about Courtown Oscar and at 8, he has a couple years on some of these, i am hoping it will be his best season yet. Everything will suit and he comes here with a chance.
Belmount runs for the in form stable of NTD. He has won on heavy but i can't help but think he would prefer good ground as 5 of his 7 wins have come on good. Plus he hasn't won over 3m 2f before, so on heavy ground it will really test him.
Another horse i like is Russe Blanc, such a striking horse, he is back down to the same handicap mark when he won a Grade 3 on heavy ground over 1/2 a furlong further and Warwick a year and a half ago. But the previous race off the same mark in a handicap, he came last of 5. He is a bit hit and miss for me though and if he is on a going day, he has every chance, if he isn't he is more than likely to come in at the back or PU. There is not really any in between this days.
So i am going to stick with my system, but i also advise Courtown Oscar as the form horse
My Selection: Emperor's Choice 9/2 (and Courtown Oscar 2/1)
2nd Courtown Oscar 2/1 - 55
3rd Belmount 7/1 - 45
